sicaf2006 :D
Monday, May 29th, 2006
last saturday, the day I was waiting for was finally came :-) it was the day sicaf2006 -seoul international cartoon and animation festival- being held at setec building at seoul. and I’m just lucky that I managed to get there..
actually, I planned to go to sicaf with beny and gyu seung. but just the day before, gyu seung told me that he had to create report for his visit to america -in fact he’d just returned from the trip on thursday night.. beny seemed reluctant to go, because he wanted to safe some money to buy laptop he desperately needed. I almost canceled the plan, but thinking that may be next year I didn’t have the chance and remembering what pak pirous once told me to go around as much as I could during my stay here, so I decided to have that solo trip to seoul.
I took the mugunghwa train and had to stand all the way to seoul :p but it’s ok since I was accompany by van tomiko with her golden voice
and thanks to my trip to tokyo subway several years ago, I could go to the destined train station without facing any difficulties. I think I’ll go to seoul once a month after this, when my money allowed me to do so, since seoul is the biggest city and has many cultural attractions than daejeon.

sicaf2006 was a good treat for me, especially because the main theme for this year was around the comics and its neighboring medium. I enjoyed how the sicaf staffs created the way of presenting the materials, with digital technology.
the exhibition was divided into three main area: the main exihibtion where we could learn the comics ‘invasion’ toward online games, tv dramas, movies, musical performances and plays. we also saw the advanced of the new wave of comics form in digital devices such as online comics, portable digital comics even comics on digital screen -using flat 29 inch tv screen. in this area also exhibited the works from french artists celebrating their famous science fiction writer jules verne, and also the famous manga group, clamp in clamp in wonderland area.
several animation universities also took part in the exhibition, that showed their great skills in animated movies.. a far cry and much better than indonesia.. ToT
the other two areas were about comic interaction where visitor could learn to touch and feel the comics itself, even learnt in creating ones. the last main area was about promotion, filled with various booth selling comics and promoting their animation works. there were many cosplay performers, mostly teenage girls with japanese characters. and since last saturday was a clamp day, so many of them wore the clamp character’s costume.

after going around until 3 o’clock, I finally gave up to my knees and decided to go home. didn’t want to stand again for two hours because the mugunghwa always full during weekend, I braced myself, counting my last money and took the courage to buy the KTX ticket. it did cost you a lot (mugunghwa standing ticket is aroung 7900 won, while KTX is 19500 won and 27300 won for first class) but it also served you better with convinience and speed! what a trip! only 50 minutes from seoul to daejeon :D, although I got very poor when I arrived at daejeon.. ToT
everlasting BoA
Monday, May 29th, 2006The light and wind pour through,
all the snow on the trees on the side of the road.
Even if I’m filled with pride or looking down at myself,
I won’t stop walking through the seasons.
I want to see our fingers coming together,
as I say the words "see you" or "later".
I’ve foolishly forgotten my past experiences,
as we head towards different futures.
If this "farewell" is the beginning of my journey
I’ll smile as much as I can for you.
Even the fact that we met, even the streets we’ve walked,
would turn our hearts back.
I’ll never, ever forget,
even if I can’t fly towards you.
No matter how hard it hails
I’ll still hang on to you,
without getting separated.
Even if I’m forced to forget,
My next self will empty
and as she begins to do her regular activites,
you’ll become small.
When I was in pain, for my sake,
you told me it’ll be alright thru my tears.
And from that night I’ve become strong.
Promise me that our dreams will come true.
I’m not making a sound, but my tears
are pouring out of my heart.
I’ll take a step forward holding this pain
I’m so in for your gentleness,
until I see you once again.

last week when I browsed for online videos for source materials I needed for my animation project, I found this lovely clips from BoA. I didn’t know why, but I just happened to like it.. may be the mv that brings lots of memories, the melody that is nice for the ears or just the lyrics about ‘parting’?
I think I’ve to put BoA on my fave singer again..

another comics that were missed badly here, because i have to wait very long before knowing the continuation.. ToT but thanks for the boss, i finally read the last three volumes in a row (and wanting the next volume even badly :p).
in these two volumes (part 8 & 9), the interaction and ‘love’ story -although chiaki still won’t admit that- is growing even better. and finally, we knew the ‘power’ that nodame had, and why the story title is nodame while the main character is actually chiaki. just by listening the concert chiaki conducted, nodame was moved and surprised everybody by voluntarily participating in a piano concours.. and what a very hard work with lots of miracles
i especially like the teaching moments between nodame and harisen, and the insight chiaki gave to nodame when she mentioned that harisen is hard to understand as the partitur itself.. "don’t just see things from your own point of view. face the notes face to face, because each of them is created to give meanings, even the smallest ones.."
in the volume 9, there are two scenes that touch my heart: the phone scene in nodame’s hometown and the dialogue between chiaki and muraki (may be, cause i forget the name of the journalist that supports chiaki all the way). when chiaki asked muraki why he always be very supportive toward him, muraki just simple reply that every famous musicians had lived surrounded by people who influenced and shaped him/her to reach their highest potential. and he would like to be such people for chiaki.. as for my self, this might be the same reason of why i pushed myself to care and support someone whose works i admire so much. sometimes you just see that someone has that ’special’ ability that you want very hard for her/him to achieve its fullest..
and for the ‘romantic’ surprise chiaki gave to nodame, it gave me some ghoosebumps.. not just because it looks very romantic, but when you are far away and need to talk to someone you care so much, and suddenly that someone appears before your eyes, hugs you deeply, and shows that he/she also cares about you, then you’ll have the warmest feeling in your heart…
does springtime makes people very romantic? ha ha ha.. I feel so..
dinner time.. again :D
Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006
i guess it’s a korean culture to invite someone for some drinks and food to get to know him/her better.. ’cause last friday nite, it was the third time i had such a feast. and that time, the foreign graduate students were invited for dinner by the other assistants from the neighboring room..
the dinner was held in the new downtown area, near the national goverment complex, dunsan, in a modern all you can eat restaurant. the menu itself was mixed stuff, ranging from european to chinese to japanese food. and since it was all you can eat, my plate was full with various things except tweajigogi or pork..

since the restaurant served non korean food, so during that dinner, the korean famous alcoholic beverages -soju- were not served, but there were beer instead. i tasted it a little, and still didn’t like it anyway :p
the interesting part came later, since most of the boys -excluding me- did not eat much. mostly only went for two or three rounds (i called a round each time we took another plate of food). but the ladies were extraordinary, because they managed to go for more than fourth round, ha ha ha.. chae yon said that korean female had a very big stomach.. whether this was true or not, i think i’ll just wait and see. may be untill i have a korean girlfriend..

after dinner, the ‘party’ continued to a arcade area, when the boys tested their strenght by knocking a boxing bag -where jason kinda broke his hand by punching the wrong way, poor jason.. then ended up in a norebang, a kind of karaoke room..
what a nite life! even we passed a sexy girl bar, ha ha ha…
our new book :D

after waiting for eternity, just imaging what boss alva said about the finished martabak, having a clue through cover image from sponbob and then candid photos when the books were put on the gramedia’s book shelf, at last I got my chance to see it real time..
I knew it would be thicker that the first martabak book (since the actual pages we finally created was about twice from the previous book) but seeing that it actually THAT thick is kinda amaze me.. wow, I didn’t know that we could say many things about komikita (our term for indonesia local comics). it was a hard work and also the labor of love, dedicated to my love for comics, specially for komikita.
created about 4 hectic months, then after meeting with the incredible editor ibu retno, were given slightly more time to revise and add more materials (and also more works since me and beny bunny had to create more illustrations - but that also enabled me to add more close friends cameos inside the book
). even the cover was done just days before my departure to daejeon..
now, I just wonder the readers reactions regarding this book. do they like it or do they hate it?
and I just have to believe the boss (the only writer ‘left stranded’ in the beloved country of indonesia) for answering all questions offline whenever the book is disscussed. sorry, boss :P but I hope this is a good chance to be a comic star, ha ha ha…
because during the illustrations works of martabak I had a slightly hint about going abroad for further study for a quite long time, therefore I wanted to express my gratitude to all friends that are precious for me by drawing them as cameos scattered in many pages in the whole book. it’s solely the purpose, and that’s how the way I say thank you for them, especially for those who appeared several times
감사합니다!
